  1. Easy Setup star rating

From unboxing to hooking everything up to acquiring a signal (scanning), to downloading program guide probably took around 40 minutes. Everything I needed was there, including coaxial cable and batteries for the remote control. I would recommend that you watch video to help clear up anything.
I highly recommend this portable Dish unit and pay-as-you go plan.

  2. Happy Camper star rating

Worked well right out of the box. The VR app was a great help in locating satellites through limited openings in campsite trees.

This unit is extremely easy to connect up with your receiver box. Simply quick and easy.

  5. Works well star rating

After figuring out the quirks of the set-up, everything works great. I had to set up my parents, which didn't go as smoothly as ours, bur overall we'll love having the Playmaker.

  6. Decent entry level antenna star rating

Posted by on Jun 17th 2019

The Playmaker is Winegard's entry level satellite antenna.

Pros: Inexpensive, automatic, 100% western channels, 90% eastern channels.

Cons: It's entry level, you are not paying for Winegard's best technology. You will need optional brackets to mount. Single LMB means it only connects to one Sat at a time, and takes a little time to switch between satellites. Will not work in-motion.

Overall: It's pretty amazing that this level of technology has become this inexpensive.

  7. Works well star rating

I already had Dish service with a wally. I put it outside on a cardboard box and connected it. It was well packaged, but when I removed it from the box it seemed to rattle. Must be normal, because it took about 15 minutes to find satellites and run the set-up before I was watching TV.
I didn't give 5 stars because I am going to roof mount it on my RV. A Dish representative told me the front had to face South. Which is not marked on the dome. She said the cable connection was the back. That did not make sense to me because I would not always be able to park with the dome facing South. I then called Winegard, that representative told me that the unit goes 360 degrees. Which makes much more sense. So I think the descriptions and instructions could be more clear!!

  8. Playmaker survives flood star rating

Posted by on Feb 28th 2019

We had a flash flood in the RV park we were at that. We had to go to higher ground ASAP and had very little warning. We only had time to undo septic, water and electric. Our Dish Playmaker was left to bob in the three feet flood waters for 24 hours, until the water receded. We both assumed it would be toast. Can not believe it worked perfectly the next day. Absolutely shocked. You don't want any other satellite for your RV. Indebted to you guys at Dish. Thanks for making such a great product.

  13. Works in at least 8 states star rating

I took this along on a cross country trip in an RV. My RV is wired for an external dish so all I had to do at each location was connect the single 75ohm cable to the Playmaker. i used the dish for my RV app on iphone to know which side of the rv to put the playmaker. My dish receiver is a VIP211k which also has an Off the Air tuner. Perhaps other receivers are faster at populating the menu, but by the time everything else was set up the TV was working.

The picture is superb, same as home, and is a far cry from the fuzzy cable at nearly all RV parks.
